The history and impact of Black Women from ancient Africa to the American White House
The Harlem Museum proudly presents “AIN’T I A WOMAN TOO”, a powerful and comprehensive exhibition honoring the enduring legacy, leadership, and contributions of Black women across continents and centuries—from ancient African queens to modern-day leaders in the White House.
Spanning Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia, this exhibition highlights the often-overlooked stories of Black women who have shaped history as freedom fighters, heads of state, civil rights leaders, spiritual guides, educators, innovators in STEM, science fiction, Afrofuturism and the foundational mothers of families, communities, and nations.
Through a rich collection of artifacts, art, multimedia, and archival materials, “AIN’T I A WOMAN TOO”celebrates the global impact of Black women and reclaims their rightful place at the center of world history. It is both a tribute and a call to recognize the brilliance, resilience, and power of Black women—past, present, and future.
